#MusicMondays – Death of a Piano Salesman

Appologies in advance to friends who’ve sent me music ideas; as much as I’d love to use them, I didn’t have much time to dig through them tonight, but I will use them! That being said, I’ve been getting into some hip/trip hop, and some DJ stuff recently. When my cousin told me to check out “Waldeck,” (Klaus Waldeck, to be precise). I found I really liked him. Interestingly enough, he used to be a copyright lawyer. Who’d’ve guessed. Is that even a word? Anyways…

Here’s the video.

As a note, the video clips were from the fantastic movie, “Let the Right One In.” It’s on netflix. Watch it.

Now that thats out of the way, onto what I think of the song. While a bit repetitive, it is very, very chill, which I’ve come to like in my music. Wikipedia calls his music “electronica,” although you could easily shove it under “ambient.” What’s ambient? If you’re too lazy to look it up, the song you just heard is ambient. Clear enough, isn’t it? Very relaxing, very soft, slow, not too harsh.

That being said, what do you guys think? Good, bad, or ugly? Leave some comments; I’d be happy to hear about your thoughts on my musical taste.

Spooky, simplistic, but very, very cool. And even though it gets a little bit repetitive, the little breaks and interludes definitely keep this interesting and quite awesome.
As a side note, I wish more people took the time to actually look the range of ambient music. I think most people pass it off as background noise when really is contains some of the neatest recordings. i.e. Kid A by Radiohead has so many cool ambient influences. Okay, </rant>. :P
P.S. Woah, did I actually beat out the omnipresent “themecreator”? That just made my day!

Haha he *certainly* won't be pleased :D

Still, though, people don't realize how often they hear ambient music until
it is pointed out to them; a *lot* of hip hop is sampled from ambient
      melodies, such as this one.

Well, wasn't the music you listen to to listen… but when that is said, it was really relaxing to listen to it while doing other things, like homework!

Whoa. Spooky? Orwellian? Existential? All of the above. I used to be very traditional in my tastes (Ben Folds and Amy Winehouse) but I've definitely been warming up to this type of thing, especially when it's paired with video that matches so well.
There's also a distinct European aesthetic in this video that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe it's the starkness of the landscape or the overall sense of doom on the horizon, but this is something that I have a hard time seeing coming out of the US. Do you know what I mean or am I just seeing/hearing things?

Well you certainly nailed the video bit; the clips, although they have
nothing to do with the song, come from a Norwegian film called “Let the
Right One In,” which was based off a novel of the same name. Its a fantastic
movie, and has something like a 98% on rotten tomatoes, so I HIGHLY
recommend seeing it sometime. It's on Netflix, and you can watch it
      instantly, if that helps.

And gosh darned, Geoff. I wish I had your talent for conjuring
      such eloquent adjectives. :D

        hahaha thanks Salem!
And yes, I definitely will check out this movie.
